Gotta have it all?

-=WARNING,3D GEEK TALK AHEAD=-
So I made this Glass thing

I decided to turn on global illumination and depth of field and all that. This kinda stuff is what takes a lot of processing power to do. So I went at took a shower while my picture was rendering.
...The render took me 49 minute.
So what I get for 49 minutes is some ok-ish fancy lighting and depth of field that you can't even tell is there!

You don't always want to do the best settings when rendering 3d stuff. Use what you need and only what you need! I mean if you're one of those rare people who have the worlds best computer that can do anything in a half a second then go ahead and max out those settings, but if you have a normal computer like most people then you can't afford to max out the render settings and sometimes you really don't need to...
I'm not a 3d professional or anything, heck I'm not even that good yet, but it just seems to be simple sense, don't waste time on things you don't need, Actually that can apply to more then just 3d...but I'm just gonna focus on 3d for this post.

So ya if you didn't know, I'm currently learning some 3d. My tools are my brain, and a demo of Cinema 4d. Everyone got that? Ya? Good we're on the same page!

!END POST!

it was 4301 polys with hypernurbs applied and alot of noise on the displacement channel with sub poly displacement with a gradient on the colour channel
and the glow takes nothing at all dosent even render in till the whole image is done ^_^

  2. Wow now that's pretty crazy! Are are those bumps on it from the displacement?

If I had time to render things forever then I may do it but when I want to get stuff done faster I try to think what I can do to make the render time less without compromising to much. If I had an extra computer then I may be more willing to max out settings all the time and all but my main problem is that this is my main (and only) computer and I gotta use it for a lot more then 3d in one day :(

Oh and sorry that the comment page looks like crap. I'm new to blogging...and html so I'll see if I can't fix it :)
